The Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, encompassing the Municipality of Woollahra, the City of Randwick, the Waverley Municipal Council, and parts of the Bayside Council, are home to some of the most expensive real estate in Australia. Streets like Wolseley Road in Point Piper command prices as high as $20,900 per square meter, making it the ninth-most expensive street globally. As of 2021, nine of the top 20 most expensive postcodes in Australia by median house price were located in this affluent area, characterized by a high standard of living and substantial advantages, with over 75% of neighborhoods in the Electoral District of Wentworth falling within the top decile of SEIFA advantage.
Major attractions in the Eastern Suburbs include Bondi Beach, recognized on the Australian National Heritage List since 2008, and the bustling Bondi Junction, which features a Westfield shopping center and is projected to host a workforce of 6,400 by 2035. Additionally, Randwick is home to significant institutions such as the Randwick Racecourse, the Royal Hospital for Women, the Prince of Wales Hospital, and the University of New South Wales.
In terms of infrastructure, the recently completed CBD and South East Light Rail, which was finished in April 2020, enhances connectivity within the region, providing reliable tram services for residents. The Eastern Suburbs are also dotted with major shopping centers, including Westfield Bondi Junction and Westfield Eastgardens, catering to both local and visiting shoppers.
Moving to the Southern Suburbs, the area includes neighborhoods within the Georges River Council and the Sutherland Shire, offering picturesque views of Botany Bay. La Perouse is famous for its old military outpost at Bare Island and the scenic Botany Bay National Park.
Cronulla, another suburb in this region, is adjacent to the Royal National Park, Australia's oldest national park, while Hurstville serves as a bustling commercial center with high-rise residential buildings dominating its skyline.
